MIELA’s music is closely connected to the way she experiences art and place. With a background in art history and painting conservation, she has spent years working with old paintings, objects, and natural materials. This fascination with what survives, what changes, and what is left behind naturally finds its way into her songwriting. Bittersweet.
Her artistic journey has taken her between New Zealand, Vietnam, and Italy. She spent several years living and studying in Florence, where her relationship with art, language, history & nature deepened, before returning to her homeland New Zealand. These different landscapes and cultures continue to shape her sense of identity and her connection to the natural world.
Musically, MIELA blends jazz, alternative psychedelia, reggae dub & cinematic soul. She draws inspiration from artists such as Sade, Hindi Zahra, Enya, Annie Lennox & Lana Del Rey, while creating a sound that is distinctly & naturally her own: intimate, atmospheric, evocative, and melancholic.
Her debut EP, 'Love In The Big City' (2023), explored love and heartbreak against the backdrop of Auckland during the COVID era.
After three years overseas, MIELA returns with 'Colours of Pearl' (2026), a song about identity, belonging, nature, and home. Inspired by Dante Alighieri’s La Divina Commedia, it follows a physical and spiritual journey through longing, reflection, and the revelation of knowing where home truly is.

Fragments of MIELA
Ancient worlds, faded paintings, old movies, psychedelic visions, Italian summers, Vietnamese spirituality, New Zealand rain, saltwater and iridescence. Surrealism, memory, nature, and that strange, bittersweet longing for places that live within.
“"I love your voice...so hypnotic and trance-like."”
- Jam in the Van (Vibing Out with LaVencia)
“This (Colours of Pearl) is really pretty...I love how cinematic it is… I would love this to soundtrack something like New Moon… Yeah, this is definitely in a show or in a movie… This is the break-up scene. It’s so dramatic and we’re parting ways.”
- Off The Record with Isaiah
